Polymer Clay Cactus Gardens!

Hello! Look what I did yesterday :~)

I'm preparing for my first outdoor art show next week, and I decided I needed something fun to sell that doesn't go on the wall. These little polymer clay cactus gardens are fun to arrange & re-arrange..... I'm thinking of setting a fixed price & letting people pick out their favorite 5 or 6 cactus components?

Close up of the rounds.

Plenty to choose from!

I've made the bottoms all pointy nubs; easy to stick in a little pot full of sand. (or grits, or lentils....)

I'd love any feedback on these! Should I sell the pieces individually? ...or pre-arrange the pots?
My first show should be quite the learning experience ;~)

Paula! These cacti are absolutely awesome! I got a soft spot in my heart for these prickly plants...
I think it would be fun to let the customer choose and arrange their own clay garden... (well, as long as they don't hem and haw all day creating it...) then you would know which were the HOT cactus for next time.
Your arrangements look great already tho! Dig the colors!

Great work! Sell them both ways.
I'm curious —do they stay upright pretty well?
My instincts tell me they should be sculpted onto a bamboo skewer or a very large nail or spike.

hey! love these!!!

I would sell them pre-arranged, in different sized groupings for different price ranges. Most people aren't that creative and giving them a lot of choice at a show might overwhelm them. Hopefully you'll be busy, and taking the time to hold someone's hand while they decide might be too much. My 2 cents!

Oh those are so CUTE!

Hmmm--maybe have a pot or two made up (to show people how it's done), and then have a bunch of individual components to choose from, like you planned?

Again, I think those turned out very nice indeed!

Thanks, guys! You rock!

Chuck--these actually stand upright really really well. I was surprised :~)

I bet you're right about people hemming & hawing. I can see that happening. (Right now I have enough components for about 5 little gardens, and I spent much time hemming & hawing myself...)

They look great!
I would guess both ways too. Some people would love to choose their own cactus garden (I assume you would have pots so they could buy those too and arrange them as they went) - or they might just want to buy one to put into a real cactus garden. I am sure there are plenty of people who would much rather someone more creative put together a garden for them so having prearranged ones will be good for them and also inspire the ones who want to pick their own.
Good luck with them - I am sure they will be a success.

Great idea Paula,
And I like how you've incorporated cool beads and pins into your cacti! Everyone will snap 'em up quick!
Good luck at your fair. :)

Thanks, everyone!!!

Yes---I have a huge bin full of seed beads that I've never used! I love to buy beads..... and then not really want to make jewelry out of them ;~)

Too fun!
Well done. I'd package as pre-arranged, as I've found a finished ready to display piece trumps a festival of possibilities to a consumer.

Love your color play in all your art.

They are so clever!
I'd have some pre-arranged and some that people can pick their own (since there are usually both those kinds of customers).

These are great! I would sell them pre-arranged though. You can sell them individually as well if people want to add one or two. But as someone else said, they could overwhelm your booth taking all day to figure it out!

Good luck with these. Keep us posted as to how you do with them!

Those are cool! I love cacti. I think I would sell them both ways. Some people just go blank when asked to do any kind of creativity for themselves. I would definitely do diferent sizes of araingments at different pricepoints also.

I didn't read the posts - sorry - but I'm looking at these cute cacti and I'm seeing little cactus pens that cap in a cute little pot. Cute a few bucks to boot.
